President Blaise Compaoré

Blaise Compaoré (born on February 3, 1951) has been the President of Burkina Faso since 1987.He is the founder of the ruling political party, the Congress for Democracy and Progress. He was elected President in 1991, he was re-elected in 1998 and 2005. Dialogue and continuous quest for peace are personal qualities of President Blaise Compaoré.In 1993, President Compaoré headed the Burkina-Faso delegation, which participated in the first Tokyo International

Conference on African Development. He is an Honorary Member of The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation. At the national level, he was able to avoid the perpetuation of a social rip through a national reconciliation process, which has gained ground. Tremendous efforts were devoted to local development (infrastructures, health education, credit, etc.). • His strong commitment for promotion of women and greater opportunities for the development of the youth.• Establishing cooperative relations and equitable partnerships with all countries in the world, through a genuine diplomacy of development.• Promoting peace in the region, in Africa and everywhere in the world as an indispensable factor for regional and African integration and for the advent of a better world.• Setting up a National Human Rights Committee (CNDH) in November 2001 with a view of providing Burkina Faso with a monitoring and a warning system for the public as regards possible breaches of human rights;Establishment of Ministry in charge of Human Rights Promotion in order to put human rights at the center of national concerns.Architect of ProgressThe efforts Blaise Compaoré has courageously made during his historical career, have led to the emergence of a democratic society free of extreme dogmatic intolerance, political sectarianism, and social exclusions in Burkina Faso.
